Anyone ever read Glen Krisch? He's new to me, but has written several novels and two are on sale for $0.99 each.
Where Darkness Dwells is set during the Great Depression, so that's something different
Quote:
During a hot summer night in 1934, tragedy strikes when two local boys search for the truth behind a local legend. They stumble upon the Underground, a network of uncharted caverns just below the surface of Coal Hollow. Time holds no sway in the Underground. People no longer age and their wounds heal as if by magic. By morning, one boy is murdered, while the other never returns home.
The Underground is hidden for a reason. Certain locals want to keep their lair secret, no matter the cost. Below a town struggling to survive both the Great Depression and the closing of the local coal mine, lives an immortal society built on the backs of slavery and pervasive immorality.

Little Whispers sounds a bit 'been there, done that.' But it has a great cover
Quote:
Krista Forrester and her family return to her childhood lake house to say goodbye to her dying grandfather. His last wish is to spend his final days surrounded by family. It's a time to reminisce, a time for togetherness and love. But the family's return awakens both forgotten memories and the unsettled spirits tied to the land.
Sometimes memories are better left buried.
Krista never wanted to return to the lake house. She hasn't been back since Breann, her childhood friend, disappeared from the sandy beach right outside her back door. Her disappearance left behind both lingering sorrow and many unanswered questions. Was Breann a victim of a now-convicted serial killer? Will Krista and her family succumb to the evil bound to the lake house? Is Breann still somewhere close, waiting to be discovered? What are those melancholic little whispers Krista hears in the middle of the night?

I haven't picked them up yet, mainly because it's very late. I likely will though.
