Boothby, Guy: The Childerbridge Mystery (1902); v1; 27 Jun 2019

Best know for his Dr Nikola series, Guy Boothby wrote many other, non-series, crime novels, including this one, set initially in Australia, and then at Childerbridge Manor in the English midlands, where a murdered man is found in a once-secret passage.

The investigation reveals a tale going back many years.
