I daresay (and I'm going out an limb, mind) that you're probably fed up right now, and not only with the Kobo and its
ad nauseam proven lack of software quality.
I'd take a break from it, too, if I were in your shoes: which I'm not; I am merely an average e-reader user though an avid reader... and after a B&N nook Simple Touch (4 years) a Kobo Aura 2013 (4 years) I've found my e-reading peace with the Boyue Likebook Mars. My previous e-readers are certainly not gathering dust: they have passed on to the hands of my children, and they are fine using them, since they hardly have more than 10 e-books at the same time in the device memory.
Hopefully, as you say, there will be better devices in the future for reading e-books.
