I could continue to use the Sony Reader for PC software for that purpose. However, I want to have an ereader that has the ability to obtain library books if I am away from home. (Or if I have an insomnia attack and want to get a new library book in the middle of the night without getting up and going to the room where the computer is

) I went ahead and bought a Kobo Clara. I still need to use my PC or smartphone for browsing, adding holds, wishlist, and checking out, but once a new book has been added to my library loans I can sync the Kobo and it acquires the book. I used to keep the Sony set with my library loans as the browser's home page; then when away from my PC I used my phone for all but the final download so my workflow isn't too different.
I will keep the Sony as a backup since it still works fine other than the Overdrive issue.
