Technically true, but if we're talking about popular fiction, then the reality is that pretty much all eBooks are released for all the popular platforms, and are equally available on the Sony Store, FictionWise, BooksOnBoard, etc, as from Amazon.

No matter what device you buy, you'll find many "lifetimes" of reading for it.
