Amazon's position on Kodi (and side loading in general) is they won't stop you but they won't help you either. As to Kodi itself, their "middle ground" position is to offer up MrMC, which is Kodi minus (most) plugins. Thing is it is a solid media center app even on the FireTV stick, stable, and well supported. Cheap, but paid, so they make a buck or so, which is what they're in Business for.
I have Kodi on XBOX and MrMC on FireOS and there is no difference except in the skins. Well, and the USB ports on the XBOX, but I use a server to hold my CDs and DVDs anyway.
A difference that makes little difference to me.
