His efforts to do so take him into Cairo’s student quarter and out to a remote rural estate. And require him to handle a fading Pasha and a dangerous gypsy girl – whose claims he has to balance against those of his fiery Egyptian mistress.

As I mention from time to time, Michael Pearce is one of my top four or five favorite mystery authors - I love both his Mamur Zapt series and his Dead Man series. The sixth book in the Mamur Zapt series, The Mamur Zapt and the Spoils of Egypt, which, per SYKM, won the 1993 Last Laugh Dagger Award, has just dropped to £1.99 at Kindle UK.
