If you use Sigil to do the rename, YES. (You change the name of files in the book browser window).
If you do it with the OS (or other renaming tool), Nope.

Hey team, It would be fantastic if you could do a rename in the Reports:Images tool (you can do a delete), where you can SEE a thumbnail.
Obviously, the rename can't clash with any existing file name, but that rule already exists in the book browser
