The Alchemy of Stone by Ekaterina Sedia is an Arc Manor/Phoenix pick this week for $2.98
I picked this one up several years ago, and liked it very much, but sadly couldn't remember the title. It falls into a similar category as The Golem and the Jinni in my mind. So, if you liked the latter, I think you would enjoy the former.
