Where You Can Find Alternative Bible Software.

Some MobileReaders following this thread might be interested in the following. It's a webpage from AlternativeTo, a website devoted to giving alternatives to different software. It's especially helpful, in my opinion, in finding software that is cheaper than what you want to (or can) pay, but still will do all of the essential things that you want to do. Often the software is free.

The software is not necessarily as good as or comparable to the software that you're looking for alternatives to. It is "alternative" in the sense that it does things similar to the software that you want to find alternatives to.

As an example, let's look at the webpage giving alternatives to Logos Bible Software. I chose Logos because, in my opinion, Logos is tops (Hermeneutica seemed to be the Bible scholars'/academic-types' top choice; it may have been tops all the way around. However, Hermeneutica got acquired, or something like that, by BibleWorks; then, BibleWorks shut down; Hermeneutica went down with it. It's sad, really). If you follow the link above, you will find about 30 alternatives to Logos listed on that webpage.

I haven't made an effort to separate out the software that runs on different platforms (or that even have a mobile version) or different operating systems, but AlternativeTo makes that easy to do.

One final point. Not all of the alternative Bible software is non-denominational/non-sectarian. Some of the Bible software is produced by particular denominations or sects. Be aware that there is the possibility that the documents/publications in their software may be biased. However, you might wish to download and/or read some of those documents/publications, for one reason or another.
