Do you have the same SSID and password? For some routers, if you set the SSID for both bands to the same value, connectivity gets interesting.

That is, the following will work for almost all routers:

MYSSID24 password
MYSSID50 password

whereas:

MYSSID password for both 2.4 and 5.0GHz bands gets interesting.

On my current R7000P router, the only way to set both SSIDs/passwords the same is to put the router into a mode where it automagically selects the best band and will change the band depending on connection conditions.
