Maybe the key is to observe how much hours of intensive work you do daily. I'm a software developer so I have to spend most of my time in front of a screen. However I believe spending the time in front of the computer is not an issue (under a reasonable lightning conditions) but the time when I focus to work fast. I'm quite relaxed when I spend a day just typing, developing a stream of a new code, but my work typically require jumping through text quickly, reading non-language gibberish, sometimes just searching for anything odd in the logs or any doc... that's a bit demanding for the eyes. I bet it would be much the same if I had a no-light monitor.
Anyway, I just wanted to say, that your thread / message is a very good one.

I'm so surprised that the e-ink space moves into LCD like space. Light, glossy surface, doesn't make any sense to me. Isn't it better to use tablet instead?
