Error communicating with device

I am using calibre version 3.42.0

A few days ago I suddenly began to have catastrophic problems when trying to upload new ebooks to calibre, or when trying to download ebooks from calibre to my Sony PRS T3 and my Kobo Glo in that calibre refuses to accept the files or to download ebooks I already have to the reader. And I do not understand the error message it gives:

'Failed to access files on the SD card in your device. This can happen for many reasons. The SD card may be corrupted, it may be too large for your device, it may be write-protected, etc. Try a different SD card, or reformat your SD card using the FAT32 filesystem. Also make sure there are not too many files in the root of your SD card. Underlying error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'K:\\driveinfo.calibre'

But I can still download ebooks to my Sony PRS 2. My readers are certainly not write-protected, and I do not use an SD card, just the readers.

I have recently deleted ebooks from the ereaders without going through calibre, but I'm sure I've done that before without any problems.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? And how to fix the problem so I can go back to using calibre?
