LOL. I don't think this is strictly about need. After all, do you even truly need an ebook reader. It's a bit of a luxury item. Many people want wireless. Frankly, I find it adds to my reading experience in a meaningful way. Luckily there is more than one device to choose from.

Personally, the ability to go from ebook sample to full ebook with practically no pause in reading leads me to sample all sorts of books I wouldn't necessarily commit to buying. Also the on board Web and Wikipedia search is nice for a quick bit of research on whatever I'm reading without really disrupting my reading experience.
