To quote (again!):

After you borrow the title, select Read now with Kindle.
You'll be taken to Amazon's website to finish getting the ebook.
Note: You must complete this step for the book you borrowed to appear in the "Your Content and Devices" list in your Amazon account. If the book doesn't appear in this list, you won't be able to download it on any device.

I would suggest paying special attention to the portion that is bolded. The difference between Kobo and Amazon is that as soon as I borrow the book from the library web site, it will download on the next synchronization to my Overdrive supported Kobo ereader whereas if I do not go to the Amazon site to finish jumping through hoops, I will not be able to download/synchronize/WhisperSync/whatever the book to my Kindle ereader/app/whatever.

Perhaps I should not have used download as a generic term and instead used a construction intended to cover every possibility.
Ok, I see what you're saying. I thought you were saying that you had to type in www.amazon.com and go to your account and do something, which isn't the case at all. You click the "Read now with Kindle" button, then you are automatically taken to a page where you click a button that says "Get library book", at which point the book is available on any kindle or device that is tied to your Amazon account.
