- Install proper Chinese fonts (there are Japanese fonts but it often runs into some problems)

You don't need any modifications to do this, just add the font to the /fonts directory and it will appear in the font selction menu for use in the book. (If the font contains errors then it might need to be repaired using a tool like fontforge before it will work properly.)
I think the latest firmware has one built-in Chinese font in addition to the two Japanese fonts. (I am not running the latest firmware.)

- Sync epubs and PDFs wirelessly using a cloud service or something similar. Or failing that, sending a file to the device without having to plug it in

Books purchased from Kobo (or borrowed via Overdrive in some countries) can be downloaded and synced via wi-fi.
Without any modifications you can also download other ePubs and PDFs via wi-fi using the built-in web browser, but the browser is very slow and painful to use, and it doesn't work with all websites. The browser can download from a PC running Calibre's content server via wi-fi, but you don't get all the options for customising metadata that are possible when transfering via USB.
Other wi-fi transfer/sync options are possible with modifications, but I haven't tried them.
I don't know about the other items on your list, but someone else might.
