Yes, that's what Amazon did for me. I have Kindle DX Graphite (3G only [AT&T]) and called them about this issue. They registered my Kindle on their end so I could at least download my library to a computer and side load via USB. It works great.

Note: My Kindle unit itself still thinks it is unregistered. But it doesn't matter when reading side-loaded library since those books are downloaded targeted to my Kindle DXG registered on Amazon side. The serial number matches so they open fine. This works on the Kindle unlimited books too.
