When parental controls is enabled, a new icon for it will appear in the status bar to the left of the light. Parental controls removes Kobo Store from search, disables all web browser related things (including opening links from books), hides pocket, disables stats, cleans up the home screen, and hides all Kobo services (recommendations, store, wishlist, buy, etc, related books). Existing books will remain. Enabling parental controls is almost entirely cosmetic (things are hidden, not removed) and will return to normal after being disabled (you won't lose stuff).
On my Aura One, it still leaves

"Browse fiction, romance, biography and more
CATEGORIES"

At the bottom of the screen, which still takes you right to the Kobo Store if you are connected to Wifi. So, at least on the Aura One, the new "feature" is not very useful at the moment.
