Right, that's my complaint, although I didn't state it well. DRMs aren't inherently bad, but when they're proprietary you're locked in. It would be nice if there was an open DRM standard for EPUB, or maybe there is and they're ignoring it. For example, web browsers use an open encryption standard to provide a secure connection.
