I've been using emacs and ssh on the Max since I got it. It works well enough for me (but I am not a very good typist so what lag there is doesn't bother me - YMMV).
But I'm old school - emacs is an IDE by my standards
. The minor inconveniences are worth it so that I can work outdoors.
