How you can fix this depends on your book and reading device/app. As theducks suggested, it appears that the primary font does not contain the marked characters (or at least not in italic form) and they are being substituted.

The font choices could be specified by the book itself or default for your reader. Depending on the combination, your options are to:
- Chose a different font if your reader/app allows you to, or
- Edit the ebook file to reference or embed a font that contains all the necessary characters. This will probably involve editing the .CSS file. Calibre will let you do this, and you can probably search Mobileread for some examples of the changes you will need to make to do so.
