Unfortunately for Kindles, book info comes from Amazon's servers or nothing. I seem to recall my Sony PRS-350 couldn't read book description either.

I create an AZW3 catalog on Calibre for offline browsing on the Kindle. Usually though, I just use the experimental browser with Calibre server.
