I agree there, though things have gotten better. Full screen reading is now available without patching.

I'm glad Kobo is so easily patchable. But I don't understand why patching is needed to enable ligatures in kepub and add advanced font control for sideloaded fonts. If those were added, I wouldn't patch any longer.
