I think they should just say on the website that the devices are no longer supported, and just leave the help pages available for those people that still want to look at the help/download the firmware.
I keep on Kindle DX because of its 9.7" screen. It is so handy for .pdf and large format documents. All until Amazon make Kindle with 9.7" screen and Wi-Fi.
