I have seen that ratio called the golden number. Mostly by the type of person who would insist on writing it as (1+√5)/2. I just hope the square root symbol shows up.

These meanderings are enjoyable and I often learn more from them than from the original topic. As for the ratio bits and pieces, I went through quite a few of these discussions back in the late 60's-early 70's and have the Canadian Linotype line gauge (aka pica pole) to prove it (it's also a great back scratcher).
