Having a phyiscal book to be able to flip back and forth was a lot easier than using the links in the ebooks. Plus, I could purchase a used physical academic book a lot cheaper than the kindle version. Now, the novelty for me is reading the real physical book after all of these years.

I find books with plenty of links are easier to read on a slightly bigger tablet (Moon+ reader handles footnotes fairly well) and the ability to split the screen on my tablet and use more than one reading app is useful when dealing with academic ebooks with poor links. Of course price is still a problem.
My recent purchases of paper books have been mostly out-sized coffee table editions with plenty of artwork. I do still regularly read paper books that I've taken out of the library although my
Book Pillow has become necessary for reading hard cover books of any size for any length of time.
