That sounds like a good plan. Once you get COPS running, you could always VPN back into your network and access the library on the Qnap. My last Nas was a qnap, but as it is way too old I doubt I could get COPS on it. The problem with both qnap and synology is that their OS are proprietary which is a pain. Worst case you can always buy a raspberry pi and map a drive back to your Nas and run ubooquity as an alternative.. Personally I prefer Cops. Good luck!
