Some people have huge collections and want their entire collection on their device even if they are sitting at home. That way they don't have to continually go to a computer to transfer files if they want to check something. It's all on their device. That's why you find quite a few people in various forums lamenting the fact that many ereaders no longer have micro SD card slots.

Those new android eink e-readers, as any ios or android lcd tablet, should not have much problems with an additional portable storage (without the need for any wired or wifi connecting with our pc/tablet/smart-phone or to any internet cloud service) since there are various affordable and pretty small external wi-fi flash memories available for quite some time now.
