If you fat-thumb a purchase, it makes sense to immediately look for the Return for Refund option. But in the case of formatting issues, you won't know until you start the book. I always open a new book and scan through it a bit to make sure there are no glaring issues.

I did have to talk to CS one time, because the book in question was a Kindle gift, so the refund option wasn't there. The OCR errors in the book made it almost unreadable.

But as mentioned, the option is only there for 7 days after purchase, except for those users who've returned too many books. It's my understanding that Amazon is the only one that offers a refund period at all.
