Hello, i successfuly did same thing on a Nova, but i guess it's the same thing on your device as the boox website report it as "Nova Series".
I can't test this right now because i don't have anymore the upx file in my file system, but your screenshots suggest me that you double tap that from the storage file manager.
That's not the way.
Once you loaded the file on the reader
You should go to settings --> firmware update
(it should put a dot indicating an update)
and then it was detected the local file, maybe tap on check update.
If i try to uncompress that very same upx file on my macbook i got errors.
We are not supposed to uncompress them manually, i guess the ebook reader, on the firmware, got the key to open it
