Macdonell, A G: How Like an Angel (1934), v1: 1 April 2019

How a young and naive Englishmen, brought up in isolation in the South Seas, is mistaken for the celebrated movie star Michael Seeley, and what follows.

Young Hugo Smith finds himself in thrall to the movie company, because the real Michael Seeley has gone AWOL at the beginning of a huge publicity swing through Britain. The bewildered Hugo finds himself "married" to Seeley's tempestuous film star wife, and dragged through a wild assortment of publicity stunts such as parachuting into Welsh Harp (the lake, not the pub), finding Britain, the land of his birth, a bizarre and confusing place.

Macdonell takes a satirical swing at many British institutions from Test Cricket to gentlemen's Clubs, as Hugo frantically tried to find a way to escape.
