Dozens of other people have made comments similar to mine on Amazon. The toxic smell doesn't come from the leather. It comes either from plastic on which the leather is mounted or, more likely, the glue that holds it together.
I do suspect that there are batches of Amazon Kindle covers that do not smell and batches that do.
Mine smelled absolutely horrible, but because I liked the feeling of the extra weight of the K2 with the cover, I spent my first night reading with it on held as far away from my nose as possible. When I finished reading and tried to go to sleep I noticed that my fingers reeked! I washed my hands and got back into bed only to realize that the stench also permeated the sheets and blankets on my bed. I had to change all of my bed linens before going to bed.
I should note: I do not have an overly sensitive nose.
So, if you are considering buying the Amazon Kindle2 Cover, just know that you may very well wend up with one that smells horrible.
PS I give honest reviews. When I have enjoyed a product or service, I am the first to sing the praises of those responsible. But when I say a thing stinks. I mean it stinks!
