You could use kindleunpack to unpack the MOBI and then use kindlegen or the Kindle Previewer to turn that into a Master MOBI. The Master MOBI will be a bit larger than a plain AZW3 file, but it will work the same in newer kindle devices.
Kindleunpack is available stand-alone or as a calibre plugin. It will produce a set of files. Use the one named content.opf as the input to kindlegen or Kindle Previewer. If you use Kindle Previewer you save the Master MOBI using the File->Export menu choice.
