I have seen several people have issues with updates to Windows Defender and access to files/directories in it's protected folders which includes the Documents directory. The weird part is that in theory, Documents is part of the default for protected folders but some people have it protected and others don't despite "I didn't make any changes"—something which any tech has heard all too often.

There have also been issues with OneDrive and other cloud storage providers where they synchronize the Documents directory which can and does make calibre very unhappy. I generally find it easier to move the calibre library directories to where they will not be synchronized and then to save a backup where it will be synchronized.
