There are two places where glass can appear. One is the base for the TFT while the other is the front of the device. The base for the TFT is the most vulnerable to breakage as it is thin. The font (top) layer is usually very heavy duty glass as it needed to distribute the front light evenly over the surface. The plastic base and front is flexible making it difficult to get the front light to work properly.
