It was more than that: it should have shown up in the Dictionaries ‘collection’ and it did not: it was just another ‘book’ listed with other books. So it did not have the correct formatting to be recognized as a lookup dictionary.

Actually you can pick any dictionary that’s downloaded to the Kindle, regardless of language identifier of the book (or dictionary for that matter). That was changed awhile back. It is the same with Kindle for iOS. The language identifier of the book just picks the default dictionary for that language (if such a dictionary has been downloaded).

For example if you encounter some French words (not in English dictionary) this lets you translate that to English (if you have French-English dictionary onboard). Of course for this case, you can also use Translate feature, but Greek is not one of the supported languages for that.
