for a wired connection: Start with: does windows see and show the device. ?
if not, then obviously calibre will not see it eitiher. say what windows version you have and what ports , cables , other troubleshooting you have tried

IF it is visible in windows but not in calibre, then say that, and say what calibre version you have

a kindle 7 is an e-ink device which cannot run calibre companion so why are you posting here

if you have a fire tablet, say so , and say what model, amazon have sold many different 7 inch fire tablets over the last 6 years... and they stopped calling them Kindles several years ago
