Apologies! It is a Kindle Touch D01200, running firmware 5.3.7.3

I suspect this is the case with almost any version of the experimental browser.

I've been able to make a fair amount of progress by looking at WebKit 5.0 and the feature set it had, but it is slow going without any debugging
