That reminds me of something I said to my wife after watching the first series of "Broadchurch", which was something along the lines of, "Man! The British really like to torture their TV Detectives!" I should think it would be easy to become a TV Detective in Britain, the shortage caused by TV suicide must be very high.

The closest we in the USA have, is Bosch, and Monk, but they are outliers. Our traditional TV Detectives like Columbo, are happy pros or angry pros who hate their "amateur partners".
