Something slightly at a tangent, but which may still be of interest, is John Preston's 2007 book, "The Dig". This is a novelisation (but with all the original people in it) of the discovery and excavation of the Sutton Hoo ship burial in the late 1930s, the most significant and well-known archaeological discovery from Anglo-Saxon Britain (the "Sutton Hoo Horde" today occupies a whole room at the British Museum). Very interesting and readable.
