You can add books from various directory structures, viz

if you use toolbar buttons the Add Books flyout menu is a drop down menu

But you must decide if you will extract metadata from file names using a template, or from the metadata embedded in the ebook file content. You set that in the Control the adding of books->Reading metadata tab.
