Williams, Valentine: Skeleton Out of the Cupboard (1946); v1, 1 Mar 2019

Traditional country house murder detective story, with semi-retired Savile Row tailor Horace Treadgold intervening, abetted by a temporary "Watson" in the form of American girl Clarissa Pell. This is the third and last Treadgold book.

Although published in 1946, it is clear that the action takes place in 1939, as it all happens exactly 20 years after the wreck of the ship "Red Knight" in 1919.

20 years on from that disaster, the past rises up and murder follows.
