I always keep a cover on my readers, but I do know that some people prefer no cover and haven't had issues. I find the bare reader too slim and harder to hold onto without a cover.
But I'll also add that the times I've dropped my reader was when handling it and reading. Which means it happens at times when the sleeve wouldn't be on the reader to protect it. Fortunately, my readers have survived numerous drops thanks to covers.
If you've never ever dropped your reader and think you'll never ever drop your reader, then you may be happy with just a sleeve.
