Just to add my experience with them. I have used the Smart&Cool Gen4 brand for my devices since mid last year. I do not have my Kobo Forma yet but it will also be getting one. I use them on my iPhone, AirPods, Oculus Go, Kindle Fire, Kindle Oasis 2018, Android Phone and probably a few other devices.

I never experienced any issues with any of the cables. For MicroUSB only one direction supports data sync and the other direction fast charging. This is useful if you want to charge using a computer USB port and not have it connect to the computer.

The only time I have ever had the connector come off is when I accidentally pull the cable directly instead of at an angle to break the magnetic connection. MicroUSB are far less likely to pull out.
