There HAS to be something. What it is, I have no idea. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because my eyes are just bad enough for it to not really matter. Whenever I look at an LCD screen, the brightness is adjusted to be hardly different (to my eyes) than staring at a cream-colored wall.
