Lardner, Ring: The Big Town (1921), v1

The sub-title is: HOW I AND THE MRS. GO TO NEW YORK TO SEE LIFE AND GET KATIE A HUSBAND.

At the end of the First World War, the narrator's wealthy father-in-law dies and leaves his two daughters, one married and one still single, $75,000 each.

So husband, wife and sister-in-law up sticks from their home in South Bend, Indiana, and take the train to the Big Town: New York.

(Made from a reasonable Google OCR and a good page image scan. I could't find a first edition cover in reasonable condition so made one using a 1920 postcard of the Woolworth Building in NY).
