Thanks for your responses! I'll keep the powered USB hub in mind. I've had no luck with the USB ports on the back of the PC but I've been using those with relatively long USB cables so it might still be a (lack of) power issue. I could try to move my calibre library off of my SSD and onto one of my HDDs, which might result in a rw-able library (shutting down my computer turns out to be actually some form of hibernation when fast boot is enabled)

I've got some new angles to work with and hopefully these will be my last. Thank you!
