I would not remove the screen protector if you are going to use the stylus, regardless of the installed tip. These screens are what they are....slightly gray. I haven't seen any e-reader have a truly "white" background unless in complete sunlight or with a good frontlight system. At least the Note devices have a black shell which improves the perceived contrast vs. a white case.
