Actually most of the Hunter/Killer Groups operated in the Atlantic. The German Wolf Packs were a greater threat to the convoys that were trying to keep Britain and Russia supplied. The Jeep Carriers in the Pacific were mostly relegated to resupplying the Fast Attack Carriers and the island based Marine, Navy and AAF with planes and pilots. They were also tasked with most of the ground attack missions during the island hopping campaign.
Read Rear Admiral Daniel V. Gallery's Clear the Decks and U-505. He boarded and captured the German U-boat 505 in June of 1944. The first person to have done so since 1815.
