I have successfully connected to Kindle using chinese clone of FT232RL-FTDI-USB.
USB adapter has been changed with LDO Voltage Regulator 1.8V according video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4PwWHz65Z0.
I used three wires (tx, rx and ground) to connect to the book.
